Last month (I've neglected to take pictures, so no pictures) a pretty black Australope hen we have named Aunt Jemima went broody and sat on a nest of eggs. She sat on ten eggs (assorted eggs from the rest of the flock, not her own), four hatched, and two lived longer than a day. Now we have two little half-feathers half-fuzz chicks named Betty-Lu and Bobby-Jo that follow Aunty J around all the time in the yard. Betty-Lu is yellow with a grey back and Bobby-Jo is a pretty dark caramel color with mottled patches and speckles of black, brown and some white.
And now another hen named Jenny went broody (awhile back, obviously) and sat a nest of six eggs. Within the past two days, four have hatched; first a yellow and grey one, then a jet black one, then a beautiful caramel brown/yellow one, and this evening another yellow and grey.
The jet black one's name is Elvira Lucifera, and the caramel one's name is Nutmeg.
One of my reasons for writing this all out is both out of boredom and the curiousity if anyone had a really funny or silly-cute female name (if there's any roosters in this clutch his name will be either Hakkar or Draco, but we're seriously hoping we have no roosters D: ) for the remaining two chicks considering they live (it's common for the chicks to die shortly after hatching).
